Shaping my health: Could what your are in taking help with Autoimmune diseases?

As a person who is seeking healthy alternatives to medicine and just dealing with pain and symptoms I have come across a lot of interesting information involving your Gut and Autoimmune diseases. I looked up a list of Autoimmune diseases and found a pretty comprehensive one from the AARDA you can check that list here but it includes the more common ones like MS, and Chron’s, and Lupus but did you know that Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Celiac disease, Narcolepsy, Rheumatoid arthritis, and Type 1 diabetes are also considered Autoimmune diseases as well? The list is much greater than what I mentioned and you should check it out if you are curious if you or a loved one has an autoimmune disease.

Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans have an Autoimmune disease? And 75% of those affected are women?  That is a staggering number and quite scary as a woman especially.

 What causes autoimmunity?

The immune system normally can distinguish “self” from “non-self.” Some lymphocytes are capable of reacting against self, resulting in an autoimmune reaction. Ordinarily these lymphocytes are suppressed. Autoimmunity occurs naturally in everyone to some degree; and in most people, it does not result in diseases. Autoimmune diseases occur when there is some interruption of the usual control process, allowing lymphocytes to avoid suppression, or when there is an alteration in some body tissue so that it is no longer recognized as “self” and is thus attacked. The exact mechanisms causing these changes are not completely understood; but bacteria, viruses, toxins, and some drugs may play a role in triggering an autoimmune process in someone who already has a genetic (inherited) predisposition to develop such a disorder. It is theorized that the inflammation initiated by these agents, toxic or infectious, somehow provokes in the body a “sensitization” (autoimmune reaction) in the involved tissues. (see the AARDA for this quote and more info)

What you eat and drink could greatly affect your body and inflammation and help your system deal with Autoimmune diseases. More than 80% of your immune system lies in your Gut. If you have an Autoimmune disease than you most likely have a leaky gut.  Here is a great article about Leaky Gut and how it allows food particles to flow in your blood stream and forces your body to attack itself.

We all have good and bad bacteria in our digestive system. When your gut flora is in balance the bad bacteria pose no threat. But when the bad bacteria outweighs the good, irritation and inflammation occur, again, causing the pores of the intestine to open up. ~ Leaky Gut Article

If you are looking for a good Probiotic to help With friendly bacteria and rid yourself of the bad bacteria, I suggest Pro Bio 5 which I have personally used and I love it. You can check out more info by clicking on the link but here is part of what the Pro Bio 5 can do for you.

ProBio5 Friendly Flora In addition to enzymes, ProBio5 contains very beneficial “friendly bacteria” that assists in supporting the body’s need for a balance of probiotics (microflora) in the digestive tract. This “friendly bacteria” is delivered in a micro-encapsulation system to ensure that they reach their intended destination in the digestive tract to help rebuild the damage done by the yeast and fungi overgrowth. – See more at:

Healthy Breakfast Ideas

Here is a short list of breakfast ideas to help you shape your body and budget.

Chocolate Banana Peanut butter Smoothie:
One Frozen Banana
1 cup of milk
1-2 tbsp of peanut butter
1-2 tsp of Chocolate syrup

Mix well in a blender. Feel free to adjust the portions and substitute the milk for almond milk or whatever is your choice of milk.

One egg with veggies (spinach, zucchini, mushroom, or anything really)
Protein with veggies is a great way to start your day. If I am adding zucchini or onion or something that takes a while to cook I get that started and work on other things like tidying the kitchen. Then cook the eggs.

Oatmeal with fruit and honey
Oatmeal is a great money saver and is awesome for filling hungry tummies. I cook up quick oats and add in whatever fruits are in season and on sale. Strawberries, blueberries, apple, banana, and peach are all great fruits to add in. I then add in honey and maybe a little milk.

Bake a loaf of banana bread, zucchini bread, or something similar
Try and use healthy ingredients substituting wheat flour, apple sauce and bananas for other ingredients such as white flour, oil and even sugar.
One slice is enough and if it does not feel that way add peanut butter to help fill you.

No matter what you chose moderation is huge for your body and budget.

Healthy by drinking more water

Did you know most mature adults lose 2.5 – 3 liters of water a day!  Add heat and exercise and that number could be greater. The human body contains 55-78% water, depending on the size of he body. Water has so many important jobs in the body and it is super important that we stay hydrated. Here are a few of the many things water does for your body:

  • Regulates body temperature by sweating
  • takes care of every cell in our body
  • cushions and lubricates joints
  • aid digestion

Water is essential for most bodily functions.

I struggled to drink water for a long time and the things I would notice most were:

  • Tiredness
  • Cold
  • headaches
  • mood changes

Surprisingly I would still not feel thirsty. My body is pretty weird. So I have been drinking more and more water each day and it helps me tremendously! Here are some stats to help you get that water in:

So grab some water add lemon or fruit if you want and get started drinking your water today!

Summer Boredom Busters

Summer can get very taxing on parents as children get bored and they are very vocal about that. Or they end up trying to spend the day on electronics, watching tv, or starring at you until you come up with a cool idea (or are my kids the only ones who do this?) I found a list of over 180 ideas to keep your kids from being bored and driving you crazy this summer!

Check it out here at Teachbesideme.

Some of my favorite were:

  • Make a pinata– we did something similar using a paper lantern as the base.
  • Learn to sew or knit- we did some of the projects last year and I hope to do a few more this year! My daughter loved to try it out.
  • Make Ice Cream in a Bag– ohhh we are very curious to make this!
  • Camp in the Backyard- we are going camping at a campsite as a family for the first time next week but I am looking forward to trying this one with the kids also
  • Planetarium- We did this today and it was a blast! My science loving son answered tons of questions the announcer asked and my daughter seemed pretty excited. Little one fell asleep but it had been a busy day so I don’t blame him.

  •  Movie Theaters- so many of the movie theaters have $1 movies check your local theater to see what they offer.
  • Zoo- oh the zoo! We have a membership to our local zoo and we love it. Although during the summer it is very hot here we still enjoy going when we can.

We are going to be doing several things from the list and I hope you do as well!

Shaping my Body: Plexus Slim Day 4

Today is day 4 for my journey with Plexus Slim and the accelerator+. I have enjoyed this product so far and I look forward to the changes that are to come. This morning I weighed myself and I weighed 153, which is 2 lbs less than when I started. I did not notice a change on the inches, but I have noticed a change in my energy.

I have been able to keep going a lot longer and I hope the energy keeps coming!
